GENOCIDE AND HUMAN RIGHTS UNIVERSITY PROGRAM REGISTRATION STARTS FOR SUMMER 2004

Toronto, Canada - The University of Minnesota and the International Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (a Division of the Zoryan Institute) are pleased to announce that registration for the Genocide and Human Rights University Program has begun and they are now taking applications for the summer 2004 session.

The program will be held July 5 -16, 2004 at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and from August 3-13, 2004 in Toronto, Canada. Four semester credits from the University of Minnesota are being offered to graduates of the course in either city. Students accepted in the course should consult their respective universities regarding equivalency.

Applications must be in before May 15, 2004 for the Minnesota program and by May 31, 2004 for the Toronto program. In order to maintain the seminar format for this high demand course, the number of students is limited. Therefore, early application is recommended. International students are encouraged to apply early so that travel documents can be arranged in a timely manner. Limited scholarship assistance will be available for selected students.

The program previously ran in Toronto in August 2002 and 2003, attracting students with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests, from some dozen countries. One student expressed that "The program went beyond my expectations; the people, scholars, students and the wealth of knowledge….Even more options within the field of genocide studies have been brought to my attention through this course." Another wrote, "Having the chance to speak with and interact with many of the renowned profs covering the Armenian Genocide, the Jewish Holocaust, the Cambodian Genocide and the Rwandan Genocide, among other cases was a remarkable and unique experience." One Turkish student last year commented after the course, "What I liked best was the cross-cultural contact with Armenian people. I feel that there were important exchanges and better understanding."
